Aromatherapy is the
use of essential oils extracted from the various parts of a plant
including the balsam, bark, flowers, fruits, leaves, resin, roots,
seeds, and wood to enhance the well being of our body, mind &
spirit.
Aromatherapy works in
two ways; Through the sense of smell or inhalation and during massage or bathing.
For centuries
essential oils have been considered the most therapeutic &
rejuvenating of all botanical extracts. They are highly
concentrated, regenerating, and oxygenating. Essential oils
contain hormones, vitamins & antiseptics that work on many
levels. They are highly volatile and will evaporate if left in
the open air. Most essential oils consist of hundreds of
components including alcohols, aldehydes, esters, ketones, oxides,
phenols & terpenes.
Essential oils are
very concentrated and should be used with care and respect.
Always dilute for use on the skin with the exception of Lavender &
Tea Tree, which may be applied neat (undiluted) to the area, one
drop at a time!
Remember; Less is
More!!
When using essential
oils, use the smallest amount of essential oils that will get the
job done. For example; “If one drop will get the job done, don’t
use two drops”.
Following you’ll find
‘Profiles’ of many Essential Oils. Included in each ‘Profile’
will be information on the botanical classification, extraction
methods, therapeutic properties, characteristics, main
constituents, uses, and the safety & cautions of the essential
oil.
